Promises for Purple
Promises for Purple

Promises for Purple, a volunteer organization for pancreatic cancer awareness, was founded by Claire Muollo in 2009 shortly after her own personal diagnosis of pancreatic cancer. While undergoing a variety of treatments at Dana Farber Cancer Institute, she began to admire the true dedication and genuine care from the doctors at DFCI. Claire recognized their valuable efforts and persistence in detecting this disease in its earliest stages, for it would allow patients to have a better quality of life.

Inspired by the doctor’s determination and her own frustration of the incurable illness, Claire, along with her close friends and family, organized a 5k walk at Braintree High School in Braintree, MA in order to build awareness of pancreatic cancer and raise money for research. Having executed five successful walks, Promises for Purple has raised $148,000 for pancreatic cancer research.

It is sad to announce that Claire Muollo lost her battle to pancreatic cancer in early April of 2014. Although her presence is no longer here, her strength, passion and determination are still seen today through the continuing Promises for Purple committee. Thanks to the continued efforts of her two sons, family, friends and local supporters Promises for Purple will continue to raise money and awareness in hopes to find a cure for pancreatic cancer.
